Aug 15 - 18, 1969 (55 years ago) Max Yasgur's Farm Bethel, New York, United States
The Woodstock Music & Art Fair, or simply Woodstock, was a music festival held from August 15 to 18, 1969 that helped to popularize large-scale, multi-day music festivals. The festival was to be held in Woodstock, New York, hence its name; however, residents rejected the location and a dairy farm owned by Max Yasger in Bethel, New York was selected instead. Originally expected to attract 50,000 people, the event drew an estimated 400,000 and became an enduring symbol of the 1960s countercultural movement.
